dA's Storage function frustrates the hell out of me. It might not be a big deal if the community wasn't created in such a way that it encourages to highlight others' work, BUT IT WAS.
The entire Favorites function is there so we can gather and remember all the things that made us say "Ooh, shiny!" during our wanderings through dA, and share them with others to get them excited too. It brings new traffic to artists' sites, and encourages us to explore.
Storage is ostensibly there to give artists "more control" in their galleries. How? By showing an ugly blank rectangle where the art used to be? It doesn't clear visual space when the gallery loads, because it's not like the work is gone. All it does is show that the artist, for whatever reason, has stopped sharing their work.
If anything, I would argue that Storage actually encourages more people to make copies of others' work (and likely not to include artist information) and results in more unauthorized access and distribution of copyrighted art.
It just makes me sad, really. I just had to replace a stamp I display on my journal footer because of this, and gods only know how many of my favorites are languishing behind those damned grey boxes now.
