I have ideas, but lack time and confidence to implement them. x-/  Work is sapping most of my energy, even though the hours aren't particularly difficult - I'm under a tight deadline, working on two major projects until late September.   Part of the issue is that it's the height of Summer, and I'm doing a lot of work in a less-than-air-conditioned space.  It's easy to get physically tired quickly, without really having done much. xP   The other part is that my role involves a lot of organization and crew management, which can be just as tiring as physical labor without the satisfaction of being able to actually see what one has accomplished.  Mind you, things really are progressing well at work; it's just taking all my time and focus to do it and I really wish I had about 20% more capacity right now.

I've got some lovely grey drawing paper, all sorts of blank art cards, an ongoing mega-fic and a writing bingo card just waiting for me to come play with them.   I want to, but I don't want to be trying to quickly sneak in a drawing or paragraph while trying to make sure I get my job done.  On the other hand, it may be beneficial for me to just start scribbling things as quickly as I can, just to keep my thoughts moving and out of any procrastinatory ruts.

Argh.  I suspect I'm going to get very little done online over the next couple of months.  ;_;

Been there...am there... I sympathize. Be the better of us two and keep yourself going by doing little scribbles.

I think I plan to, just as soon as I'm home long enough to do it! xD

Keep a sketchbook on you for your lunch break?

I would, except lately I never have the same time for lunch (or dinner, in some cases) and keeping something to sketch on gets kind of dicey. I'm trying to make sure I take some time in the morning or late evening when I get home, less than an hour, just to make sure I do something. Discipline, dammit! :shakefist:

Ah yes that is a problem. We should do a month challenge with each other and our friends where you do just that at least a sketch a day or work on a part of a bigger project a little bit each day and upload "the fruits of our labour" everyday.

True - and all the work I've been doing may end up being beneficial because I'll build up enough frustration about wanting to draw/write that I may get a lot of something done once I get the chance. (Or at least that's what I'm telling myself! XD)

Oh, I know! I'm trying to be good and make time for them... bottled-up muses can be angry things! :fear:

Yes, or they abandon you to teach you a lesson about ignoring them D:

I'd say go ahead and indulge the scribbling (not that I think you should slack off work). I think doing as much little stuff as you can when you can't get the big stuff in is just as important, because at least it keeps you working. That means when you finally have time to work on what you love, it won't be as difficult to get started. (Not that it's ever really *easy*, but you know what I mean.) Sometimes, RL gets in the way of creativity, and when that happens, you just have to figure out a way in around the back door. :)

Very, very true. I've resolved to try doing at least something small on a regular basis, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Now all I have to do is actually keep up with it! xD
