...and I'll whisper, 'No'. by FugueState ...and I'll whisper, 'No'. by FugueState
Finished my Halloween costume at last! Only the journal is left to finish, and I'll survive if it doesn't get done.

Now, if I could just find a good convention where I could cosplay (and be able to afford getting there!), I'd be all set. ;P

This blows my mind. The pants, coat, hat, all of it is perfect! You put mine to shame, hurr, hurr.

What kind of coat is that (Like leather, swede, what)? And I HAVE to know how you did the mask.

I tip my hat to you, sir (or madam).

Thank you so much! :thanks: I still say your coat was an awesome find. Thrift stores are our friends!

My coat is canvas, actually, like yours but it was a tad darker to begin with.

It was actually the second thrift store coat that I bought, and it didn't have the shoulder mantle. I ended up Frankensteining one onto it from the first coat! xD I sponge-painted it with tan, brown and black acrylic craft paints to imitate the mottling of old leather. Then I sponged on a ton of Fabric Mod-Podge to give it a sheen. [link] .

Here's how I did the mask: [link] It's actually 3 layers, using two layers of dance fabric from JoAnn's that was a really stretchy mesh, and one layer of white cashmere that I used from a thrift store sweater. :)

That is a really spiff mask! How exactly did you get the pattern to line up like that? I was a little confused. >.<

When I painted the pattern on the 2nd layer, I started by only doing one half of the mask. Then I folded it in half and set it on a clear piece of plastic that was set over a lamp so I could see the pattern on the unpainted side. Then I just copied it so it would be symmetrical.

Once I got the 2nd layer done, I mounted it on the styrofoam head, put the 3rd layer over the top of it, and then traced the pattern onto the 3rd layer. ^_^

It's great!! I'm curious, how long did it take you to do the mask?

Thank you! :aww:

Hoo boy, how long... Several days, at least, because each of the 3 parts had to be sewn and it took me forever to finally decide on a pattern. (It's hard when you only get to choose one! xD) A lot of it involved learning on-the-fly, including figuring out how to sew mesh fabric so it didn't fray. :dohtwo:

I've got the process I used in my scrapbook, if that helps. :)
