Rorschach cosplay 2010

Just wanted to show views of my costume that show more than just the trench coat because I put a lot of work into it and never really got to show it off.

Best Cosplay EVER :la:

Were these fantastic finds or did you have to make all of this?

Thanks! ^^ The hat, gloves, dress shirt and shoes were all lucky finds that didn't need much work. The suit was a really lucky find that needed alterations, as was the trench (it's actually Frankensteined from 2 coats!) The mask I made from scratch. :)

Thank you! :)

The way I did my mask is a bit complicated - it's actually three layers of fabric, sewn to fit. The real trick is finding a way to create eyeholes that can be hidden, and to find fabric that will stretch well over your head so it doesn't bunch up.

Well, I will admit to a certain amount of body "modification" to correct the silhouette... :paranoid:

hm...not sure if i should i ask.. but still...nobody really can pull it off. hes very skinny and petite(*Heehee*)

LOL! Don't let him hear you call him "petite"! :fear: xD

As for me, shoulder pads, shoe lifts, and a wide Ace bandage were put to good use for this, as well as a certain amount of hardware in the trench coat. ;)

ROFL! I've already picked up and sent one to someone I met at C2E2 for a Doctor Who costume. :XD: If you've got a Burlington Coat Factory near you, they might have them! :D

I think I saw the same suit at our BCF when I was looking for a black blazer for my husband's Draco Malfoy costume, and sure enough, first thing I thought was "10th Doctor!" :)

That is a hot motherf***ing suit! I love it without the trench. Wow wow wow! And forgive me, but I just have to double-check... you ARE female, right? I always assumed so, but your body is so slender and you do "male" so well, you've got me second-guessing myself. *opens mouth, prepares to insert foot*

Dude, that is the BEST compliment ever! Yes, I'm female... I made a point of altering my silhouette (6" ace bandage, shoulder pads, and so on) to appear male. (you should have seen the janitors I surprised at C2E2 who saw me come out of the restroom! xD)

I found the suit at a Burlington Coat Factory in the Boys section - I only just fit into it, after letting out every scrap of seam allowance I could find (and losing 5 pounds!).

That's awesome! I find successful cross-play and androgyny incredibly impressive b/c it is SOOOOO hard to pull off. You should feel very very proud.

And way to go utilizing the boys section, retailoring, AND losing some weight! Your dedication is inspiring!

Thanks! ^_^ This is likely the only cosplay I'll ever end up doing, so I threw myself into it as much as possible. ;D It was really fascinating studying for "male" mannerisms... one of the most obvious ones that's simultaneously one of the most difficult to practice is to never let one's knees get closer than about a foot apart. I still have to work on not talking with my hands, and forget about voice modulation in louder surroundings. :hmm: My Rorschach was definitely the strong silent type! xD

You are by far one of the best Rorschach cosplayers out there. I love how much you pay attention to key details.

There is only one thing that kinda bothers me...you tuck your scarf into your suit blazer. Rorschach never does. When he has his trench coat open in the flashback of the first Crimebusters meeting, his scarf is hanging freely on his chest.

It's not a big deal, just something I noticed is all ^^; I would love to see another photo of you without the trench coat and the scarf un-tucked, but again...not a big deal.

Thank you! :thanks: I got so excited that I'm actually the right size for Rorschach, I went a bit bonkers with it. ^^;

And good eye with the scarf... I can only say in explanation that my scarf's material is too thin to really behave as it should, and so I relied on the suit jacket to keep it supported. If I get another chance to wear this costume, you can bet I'll be looking for a replacement for it - and I'll get pictures! ;D

That's awesome! Are you female or male? Sorry, I couldn't tell by the photos D:

It's all good :] My boyfriend uses a hemp scarf. That's actually what they used in the film adaption and it's just the right thickness :-D

No, don't be sorry - I take it as a huge compliment that you have to ask! (and I'm female :))

Hm, hemp scarf... I'll have to keep an eye out for that. At the very least, there has to be somewhere online I could find one. Thanks for the tip! :aww:

I had a feeling you were but again, wasn't totally sure. It's nice to see a female actually CROSSPLAY Rorschach instead of doing some rediculous Fem version.

I think you can find some on ebay if I'm not mistaken :]

Re. crossplay - I've read a good bit of well-done Rule63 fic with Rorschach, but imo it doesn't do him justice to cosplay him as female. If nothing else, it takes way too much explanation. xD At any rate, I relate to him as a male character, so by extension I needed to appear male. (Likely way more info than you wanted, but... xD)

I'll be sure to lurk around ebay, then! :)
