Awesome, thanks! My other half certainly went through enough for it! xD
The coat is actually Frankensteined from two separate canvas trench coats, and then painted. I had to make the mantle for it, and switch the buttons from "female" to "male" configuration ('cos gawd knows Rorschach wouldn't tolerate wearing a women's coat, hurm), and I had to lengthen the belt. Then I sponged layers of acrylic paint on for toning, and then sponged Mod-Podged over the whole thing for depth/shine. The end result is a bit stiffer (and stickier!) than I might like, but it does all right.
(I do have another trench coat from a thrift store that's 90% the right look, though, if you're looking--?)
("s-e-w-e-r" ) And I'm not, really... I got lucky finding most of the elements and then altered them to suit. The mask is the only thing I made from scratch, and there are other custom masks out there now (not the cheesy store-bought ones) that aren't too expensive. I do currently have a trench coat that's very close to the right type - if you're about 5'-6" tall, it should fit.
whoops, yeah, that'd be a bit too short for the coat I've got! xD Try checking Ebay with "rorschach mask" in quotes. There are a few users who make them with thermochromic paint that changes with temperature for about $40, and some other users that make unchanging masks. Quality varies (a lot!), but they all cost way less than what I'd have to charge!
Yep! I painted the coat with multiple sponge-scumbles of med. brown, dk. brown and black acrylic craft paint, and then went over all that with another scumble of gloss-finish Mod Podge for Fabrics. It made the coat a bit stiffer than I'd like in places, but I got the general look I was after.
